Spring has finally arrived with sunny skies and warm temperatures! We can open the doors and windows and enjoy being outside. And so it is also in Dalian, China reports Rolf. Like us the people there want to spend their time with their families and friends enjoying the outdoors – and Dalian being a coastal city that means picnics on the beach or perhaps a trip to the mountains.
For Rolf’s new “Faith or Fiction” class that means there were only 4 that were interested in joining this go around. And then once they found he would be leaving on his home break (July 3rd) suggested why don’t they postpone it until he gets back. However, they are already a couple of weeks into it and Rolf has decided to give it a try anyway. At least they will find out what it is about and be eager to get back to it when Rolf returns, and if nothing else have an introduction to Jesus and Christianity. We know God wastes nothing that is done in His name!
When they are in town the students from the previous class continue to go to church with him and so are growing spiritually. He also keeps in touch with his former students from Xining. Of course they always want to know when he is coming back. Sometimes they are not as motivated to go to church without Rolf there to encourage them – and it is a bit of distance from the school but say they are keeping in the Word and reading their Bibles regularly.
Our pastor stated in a recent blog that “the result of a survey that was conducted among 1,000 churches by former Willow Creek executive pastor, Greg Hawkins. In his book, ‘Move,’ Greg reveals that the #1 contributor to the spiritual growth of Christ followers is reading and reflecting on God’s Word. This activity is more important than attendance at church worship services, serving in some area of ministry, or participating in a small group, etc.”
Of course we don’t want them to stop going to church all together. God has made us to be in community and interacting and learning with other believers and that is still important. Please PRAY that summer, or the ways of the world or our adversary Satan does not keep them away! PRAY, too, that they continue to stay in the Word and telling others of what God has done for them.
“O God, in mercy bless us: let your face beam with joy as you look down at us. Send us around the world with the news of your saving power and your eternal plan for all mankind. How everyone throughout the earth will praise the Lord! How glad the nations will be, singing for joy because you are their King and will give true justice to their people! Praise God, O world! May all the peoples of the earth give thanks to you. For the earth has yielded abundant harvests. God, even our own God, will bless. And peoples from remotest lands will worship him.” Psalm 67 TLB.
Thanks for your continued prayers and helping send the Message around the world to China!
