Rolf has returned to China, thankfully making it back without incident. Being just before Valentine’s Day when he left, he loaded up his suitcase with chocolates and some beautiful red Valentines candy bags with gold hearts on them. Once there he filled the bags and wrote a note for each that read:
Have A Happy Valentine’s Day!
May love, joy and chocolate abound. Remember,” Love Makes the World Go Around but Chocolate Makes The Trip Worthwhile!”
Know Who Loves You? Me and Jesus.
“For God so loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
He handed them out to one of his classes, and some of the faculty and Chinese teachers. A few days later he received a call from one of the teachers saying that she knows that he cares for her but wanted to know who Jesus was. Many Chinese have a hard time expressing their feelings and keep personal issues on the inside because it is safer that way. So, needless to say, he was for a moment speechless as he didn’t expect to hear that. He had to make a decision. . .for her to know about this “special Valentine” love he would have to take a chance and tell her! But that was scary — there was no other way. He knew it was risky and dangerous since he is not allowed to disseminate any religious information on school grounds. But he felt God’s nudging to go for it!
So he told her some of who Jesus is and how he was crucified and died to save us from our sins. He could tell that she had no idea what he was talking about so he asked her if he could have her permission to email her some information in the Chinese language about the life and death of Jesus. She said yes so he emailed her the Chinese pdf. version of “An Anchor for the Soul, Help for the Present, Hope for the Future” daily study guide and offered to answer any questions she might have or wish to discuss with him. He also invited her to go to church with him. She hasn’t yet taken him up on his invitation but Praise be to God for opening doors through Valentine’s gifts. PRAY for this teacher that God would open her heart through this study guide to seek Him and want to know more.
After sending out some Valentine emails he received this email back from a former student, “Dear Prof. Rolf, thank you for your Valentine email, I like it very much. I wish you a nice Valentine’s Day as well, we know love keeps us young and His love keeps us alive.” PRAY with us God will open opportunities in this new region and school where Rolf is for these students to understand and receive God’s love as this former student has.
On the home front we would like to ask you to PRAY for Sherri’s brother, Art and sister-in-law, Debbie. Art is being treated for his 3rd bout of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He is nearing the end of a week of chemo once a month for 6 months. PRAY this will go into remission and STAY THERE! Debbie is dealing with some very serious health issues with her dad which is very consuming and stressful. Please PRAY for comfort for her dad and peace and rest for her and the family when it is needed. PRAY they would also come to know of the Peace that only God can give.
Thank you for partnering with us on this amazing journey.
