This is the Story of Jesus and the Jelly Beans
Jelly beans were included in a thoughtful Easter gift that Rolf received from friends in the States. He decided to take them to one of his classes figuring they had never seen jelly beans before. This presented a wonderful opportunity to talk (again) about Easter and how and why we celebrate. (He can talk about religion in the context of American holidays.)
This prompted one of the girls. along with one of her classmates. to come up to him after the class to tell him that she has a Bible but that reading it was very difficult and hard for her to understand. She and Rolf agreed she and her friend would come to his apartment/office with her Bible sometime in the next couple of weeks so he could look at it. Rolf figures she has an old Chinese version. He will then be able to give her a NIV Study Bible and a reading schedule and to share with them more about Jesus. All this because of jelly beans in a Easter gift from friends! Their thoughtfulness is helping to spread the Good News!! PRAY for these students and for God to draw them into a relationship with Him.
“All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.” Col. 1:6.
Speaking of Easter, we hope the joy of the resurrection is still warming your hearts with His love. Rolf experienced a wonderful Easter celebration in the Chinese church. It is already a good sized church but was noticibly more full than the last Easter he was there, which is so encouraging. This Easter our family was totally scattered, so after attending Easter service Sherri served in the nursery for the later service, one of her favorite places to be. Then after she was invited, by the same friends that sent Rolf the jelly beans, to have Easter dinner with them. She also got an Easter gift from them with her own jelly beans, but since everyone here already knows what they are – she just got to eat hers!
While Rolf is in China Sherri has been burning up the roads between here and Kankakee attending grandchildrens basketball games, soccer games, music shows and proudly attending the Straight A recognition dinner for our granddaugthers Sydney and Michaela — And then from here to Rockford to take our granddaughter, Brittany and her mom out to dinner and sometimes to bring Brittany back here for a couple of days for some fun activity.
Please PRAY for Debbie and Brittany. Debbie still doesn’t have a job and she hasn’t made some very wise decisions which have presented them with some difficulties. We are very concerned.
PRAY, too, for Rolf’s health which is always challenging in China. After having dinner with some students he broke out in what appears to be hives. He has ointments and is on medication and is getting better, but he has been very uncomfortable and itchy.
We can never thank you enough for your love, support and prayers.
