“O nations of the world, confess that God alone is glorious and strong. Give him the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come to worship him. Worship the Lord with the beauty of holy lives. Let the earth tremble before him. Tell the nations that Jehovah reigns! He rules the world. His power can never be overthrown.” Psalm 96:7-10 TLB
JESUS IN CHINA. This was the front page headline feature story in the June 22nd edition of The Chicago Tribune. The article says, “the government is permitting churches (referring to underground churches) to be more open and active than ever before, signaling a new tolerance of faith in public life.” Wow! and praise God for the changes happening there. There is, however, a caution with this, “The boundaries of what is legal and what is not are constantly shifting. A new church or Sunday school, for instance, might be permissible one day and taboo the next, because local officials have broad latitude to interpret laws on religious gatherings.” But God is moving in the hearts of the Chinese. PRAY for this openness to continue and for more and more Chinese to come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Just google “Jesus in China” and you can find the entire article to read.
It is so exciting and such a tremendous privilege to be able to play a small part in what He is doing in China and we are so thankful and grateful to be partnered with you in this effort.
Rolf is packing his books and his bags to be ready to depart on August 1st for his assignment in China. We are so excited in anticipation of seeing how God will use Rolf’s time while he is there. PRAY for Rolf’s safety both in traveling and while he is there. PRAY for his health and well-being and that he will stay focused on his calling.
People pray, God answers, God provides — Rolf was able to get the shots for his knees and his pain is not gone but has been greatly reduced. PRAY the pain will be manageable while he is gone. And the generosity of many has provided for 60 NIV Study Bibles to be purchased. They are being shipped ahead and we ask that you would please PRAY they will get through customs with no problems. PRAY, too, for the students that will be receiving them. Thank you, thank you for all your prayers and support and keep on praying!!
What will Sherri be doing while Rolf is gone? She will continue caring for our granddaughter, Brittany while her mom is at work. In the fall, after a number of years of being a leader for a women’s community group, Sherri will step out of that role to coach community group leaders. It was a difficult decision to leave her group, but she is looking forward to the new challenge. Fall also is the start up of doing childcare 1-2 mornings a week at church. Tough job, but someone has to do it!
This summer instead of leading a women’s group she “shepherded” a group of six 3 year olds during HOTU Jr, our summer camp for preschool kids. Exhausting, but great fun and so rewarding when 2 of her boys (and the 2 that seemed to be paying the least attention!) were able to recite the memory verse of the week on their own! “Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and he will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5,6 SKV (simplified kid’s version!)
