December 2004 Update

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25)

Sherri and I like to share with you an update of what has been accomplished during the year of ministry. Each year our own personal circumstances and an array of disturbing world events sharpen our hunger for a light to shine upon the confusion and longing for communities to live together in peace. As followers of Jesus Christ, the light of the world, we believe that He alone can bring about that kind of peace and enlightenment. Surprisingly, he often chooses to accomplish that by enlisting us, his children–here and around the world.

Thank you, for partnering with us this past year. We are grateful to God for those of you who faithfully pray for the ministry to which He has called us and who sacrificially give of your finances so that we can minister here in Chicago and in China. It is exciting to see your investments reap eternal rewards for many who have entered the Kingdom of Christ and will live with Him forever as a result of his indwelling spirit.

In addition to our ministry responsibilities Sherri continues twice a week her “Child Care Service” and “Intercessor Prayer Team” activities at Christ Community Church, she takes loving care of and builds into the lives of our five grandchildren, keeps the household going, puts up with a husband constantly on the move and still finds time to mentor to the deep needs of women in homeless shelters. How she does all these things, only God knows! He must have given Sherri an extra dose of compassion and mercy to serve those in need.

This Advent season begins with an opportunity for you and us to join hands with this Light-bringing God in his work around the globe, community by community. Many times at the end of the year individuals, families and churches consider an additional gift to a ministry or missionary. We would ask that if you consider such giving that we might be prayerfully included in your plans and 2005 budgeting.

After figuring in our regular monthly and yearly support team contributions we do have a need to raise an additional $22,000 to take care of a 2004 shortfall and for the travel expenses needed to participate in several mission projects to China in 2005. If it would be of benefit for you to contribute appreciated securities contact us for the process in doing so. We could use your help and appreciate your consideration to increase or to begin support of this strategic ministry to the lost.

Together, let us celebrate his birth and his mission of love to a fractured world by joining to take up the cross. We pray that your imagination will be enkindled with the possibilities to extend God’s work in this world in the coming year.

Thank you again for allowing us the incredible privilege of serving the King of Kings!

“And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:27)
