June 2003 Update

“When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as your native born. Love him as yourself. . .” (Leviticus 19:33-34)

If we can’t go to China (right now because of SARS) we will bring China to us!! How? We were recently introduced to a ministry called “International Students, Inc.” We have applied to be a Friendship Partner which is defined as “one who commits to befriending an international student and seeks to appropriately share Christ’s love with him or her”. Our request is for a Chinese student, which most of the students are.

These students are the next generation of the world’s leadership. Lawson Lars says in The World at Your Doorstep, “One-third to one-half of the world’s top positions in politics, business, education and the military will be filled in the next 20 years by foreign students studying in colleges and universities in the US today.”

We will have the privilege of helping to acclimate someone to a culture different from theirs and help familiarize them with American ways and attitudes. Many things will be different for them, practical things like customs, food, and shopping, to name a few. We can help provide a family atmosphere and all the things we might be concerned about if we were to live in another country. And it certainly will be a lot easier to talk to them about Jesus here in this country than in theirs!

What a tremendous opportunity to make a difference! If this is something you might be interested in doing, too, let us know.

PRAISE! We never put our house on the market and yet we have a buyer ! God is good and we are very thankful and grateful. Now we can just enjoy our last summer here with family and friends without having to keep the house in “show” condition. PRAY with us that everything goes smooth for the December closing.

With our praise we have two major prayer concerns. Sherri’s mom has a suspicious lump on her breast that will be removed July 9th and sent for a biopsy. PRAY it would not be cancer.

Our daughter-in-law, Louise, has been diagnosed with Chiari malformation — a condition in which the cerebellum portion of the brain protrudes into the spinal canal. She will be having surgery July 24th to enlarge the existing opening in the back of the skull. PRAY for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. (They have 4 of our grandchildren!)

Your prayers are invaluable to us. It is of great comfort to know you are interceding for us and our family. Thank you from our hearts.

“In God whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid.” (Psalm 56:4)
