A Night at the Ballpark

Dear Brothers in Christ,

Are you ready for Baseball Spring Training at the “Christ Community Church Ballpark?”

This is your personal invitation to join me as my guest for “A Night at the Ballpark” with Dave Dravecky. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. on February 23 and we’ll have the entire campus turned into a ballpark!

Dave Dravecky is a former winning pitcher for the San Francisco Giants with a fabulous story of incredible courage, hope, battle against cancer, dramatic come-back and his struggle to keep his faith no matter what curves were thrown his way.

Dave’s compelling talk of encouragement and faith will leave you laughing, crying, and looking forward to the challenges in your life as topics such as fear, loss, suffering, disappointment, peace, and comfort all take the field for “A Night at the Ballpark.”

Complete with ballpark food, batting cages, speed pitch and other baseball related entertainment, this event is a must see! Mark this date on your calendar.

I am holding 20 box seats and would enjoy your company. Give me a call if you wish to attend this premier event for an evening of fun and fellowship with Dave Dravecky.

If you have an unsaved son or friend who loves baseball and would like to come along please let me know so that I can reserve the right amount of seats for us.

Look forward seeing you at the Ballpark Gate.

January 2003 Update

The Christmas Holidays are now behind us, and we pray the warmth of the season and the peace and joy of Christ will remain with you throughout the year.

For us it was a delightful holiday. We and Sherri’s mom spent Christmas with our son Anthony and his family. They then, came here to celebrate the New Year with us along with Sherri’s brother and sister-in-law from Florida and Sherri’s mother. We had a week of fun, laughter, eating, games, grand kids and just enjoying being with each other. We are so grateful and thank God we have our grandchildren so near and we can have these special times.

Now we start a New Year with new beginnings, new direction, and a new ministry. “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority?” Romans 13:1-3

After some research and talking to various people we have learned the Chinese government is granting greater freedoms for both Chinese Christians and overseas Christians who are willing to work within the scope of the law. Changing times in China has brought about the opportunity to work there legally and with integrity, openness and transparently. Whereas working against the government just continues to reinforce China’s long held view that Christianity is, in effect a projection of western imperialism.

The Romans verse above and with all we are learning it really became very clear the only way for us to go back to China is within the scope of the law.

The Chinese people are increasingly open to the Christian message. We saw that when we were there in April. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9:37) There are so many needs just in the churches alone. The need for Bibles to be printed and distributed is staggering (Bibles are printed legally in China). The churches need training, discipleship and encouragement and how they can pass that training on to others. There are opportunities to teach English and to just show God’s love by helping with some of their social needs (aids victims, unwed mothers, poverty, to name a few).

Pray for us as we check out how best we can help and carry the message of God’s love. Our vision, too, is to take others with us. Is God calling you to pack your suitcase? We are praying. . . .
