September 2002 Update

“Devote yourselves to prayer being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.” (Colossians 4:2-4)

We are so excited to be going back to China for another two week mission trip. We left part of our hearts there in April and now only five months later we are able to return. September 16th is our departure date.

This trip will include a different region than before, a region populated mostly by Muslims and atheists. This will present us with some new challenges. Being in a “closed” country the biggest struggle we will face will be not being able to freely talk to the people about Jesus. But, praise God, He is bigger than all the challenges and struggles!! He is also faithful and we just need to be trusting and willing and available.

Pray that we would “be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him “and that these people will see a difference in us and be drawn to His glory. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

In the book of Exodus 17:11, the Israelites were fighting against the Amalekites and as long as Moses held his hands up the Israelites were winning. But he couldn’t keep them up without help. To insure victory Aaron and Hur stood by him and held up his hands.

Lately we have been faced with some challenges with family situations and our ministry change that have caused some of our focus to be taken away from this trip. We want to be ready for the encounters and precious people God has divinely appointed to us in China. We need you to “lift up our hands” keeping us in prayer.

We have enclosed a Prayer Calendar as a guide as how to pray for us and for the people of this country. Thank you for being there standing in the gap on our behalf. You are such a blessing to us!!

“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians1:11-12)

Teacher Recognition 2004

Those of us who attend Christ Community Church want to express our sincere appreciation for all the teachers and educators in our area. We’ve devoted the month of September to specifically pray for you and your work, and to encourage you to keep it up! You mean so much to all of us.

We want you to know we’ll be praying for you every day during the month of September. If there is anything in particular we could include in our prayers, feel free to give us a call. We would love to hear from you.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 27 & 28, Christ Community Church is including a special time of recognition of teachers and educators in our celebration services. You are invited to come and be a part of this time with us. We really appreciate you and want to tell you in person. Service times are at 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 & 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Please choose the most convenient time for you. We hope you can attend, and if you’d like, give us a call and let us know of your plans so that my wife can make arrangements to meet and sit together with you, while I will be away on a mission trip in China during that time.

We’ve enclosed a coupon for a special gift – a “free copy” of Guy Dowd’s book “Molder of Dreams.” Guy is a former “Teacher of the Year.” His book is excellent! You can pick it up in our bookstore at Christ Community Church while you’re there.

Thanks again for all you do in making a difference in the lives of students in our community.
