August 2001 Update

“…but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Back in 1951 Bill and Vonette Bright signed a contract transferring ownership of everything they had or would have — their time, possessions, their lives — to Jesus Christ. This was a turning point in their lives. They had no idea what would come next. The very next day God gave Bill the vision that would become “Campus Crusade for Christ.”

50 YEARS LATER, U.S. Staff Conference, 2001, more than 6,000 of us reflected, remembered and rejoiced in all that God has done since the Brights dedicated their lives to the spreading of the Gospel. What a marvelous time it was praising and honoring our God who makes all things possible! We were also very grateful and thankful Dr. Bright could be there — an answer to many prayers. Traveling and the high altitudes of Colorado are difficult in his condition with pulmonary fibrosis.

Today, Crusade is in 191 countries with about 25,000 full time staff and over 550,000 trained volunteers and there are billions of people who have heard of Christ as a result.

And now, what next?

One of the most challenging questions presented was, are we completely sold out to Jesus to do whatever He wants us to do? Our U.S. Director, Chuck Price gave us food for thought in his paraphrase of Acts 1:8 “We have dynamite power to tell a compelling message here, there, and everywhere until the Lord comes — with whatever it takes, no matter what it costs.”

We have been praying, as Jabez did in I Chronicles 4:9-10, for God to “enlarge our territory” and asking how does God want to use us in addition to our “Chicago Executive Ministries” responsibilities. We really feel His call at this time in our lives to be involved in some short term work overseas. We talked to several people that work internationally and asked how could we be of help to them. We are excited about some of the opportunities available and are pursuing them further. Can’t wait to see what comes of this!!

Please be praying for us for God’s direction and leading in making these decisions.

We love and appreciate you. Thank you for all you do.
