May 2000 Update

“Love one another. As I have loved you so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)

What a great response to the Western suburbs first Outreach Dinner from February. Of the over 100 guests attending the dinner, 23 came to a smaller follow up dinner at the home of one of the hosts.

After the dinner, the Host Team’s warmth, love and caring continued to radiate as guests were made to feel comfortable talking about their own spiritual journey. As the evening ended, a camaraderie had developed which made an easy lead in to a 4 week Bible discussion on “The Uniqueness of Christianity.”

One of the best stories is of the guest who couldn’t make it to the outreach dinner. This man knew it wasn’t going to be any ordinary dinner party and he really wanted to be there. But there was a conflict that couldn’t be changed.

Expressing to the host his deep regret about this, he was invited to the follow up dinner anyway. He came and he was spiritually hungry. He then came to the Bible discussion group and made a lunch appointment with Ace, our City Director. At lunch he made a commitment to accept Jesus as his personal Savior. Praise God for the follow through to invite him to the second dinner!

PRAY what the next step should be for this man and the others as we finish up the 4 week Bible discussion.

From the Home Front

In January, we moved Sherri’s mom from Michigan here to live with us. We weren’t able to get back to move her belongings until March, but God’s timing is always perfect as the house sold and closed at that same time.

Now she waits for her own place to be ready in October. She will be moving into a “Phase II” of a very beautiful independent senior living complex, just minutes from us. Mom is already getting to know people there by participating in many of the activities offered. Meanwhile we are finding doctors, dentists and acquainting her with the area.

PRAY for her adjustment (and ours). This is a big change for her. She had lived in the same home for 37 years.

Finally, we have tremendous joy in having our grandchildren so near. Our son, Anthony and daughter-in-law, Louise will add to this joy by giving us our fourth grandchild in September.

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. (Philippians 1:3-4)
