March 1999 Update

“to prepare God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:12)

Tom and Brenda Preston, National Director for Executive Ministries, are a reflection of God’s love with their passion, compassion and vision not only for the “unreached influencers” but also for all the hosts, speakers, staff and volunteers involved. Surely they were hand picked by God to give leadership and direction over this ministry!

While they were in town, we were pleased to help host a small gathering of people to meet them. Tom and Brenda took us beyond the exciting things happening in Chicago to the impact of Executive Ministries throughout the country and even the world. Some of that impact results from a new strategy. After an outreach event in a new city, existing E/M cities are sending in trained volunteers to train in and help with follow-up. Tom then challenged those that were there to think and pray about making a difference by joining one of these S.W.A.T. (Servants With A Testimony) teams and be a part of seeing Executive Ministries expand and grow across the country.

Speaking of expanding and growing, February 13th Straight Talk West hosted 320 men for breakfast, which is more than any previous breakfast in the western suburbs. This is a Praise God! Prayerfully it is also the start of a West suburb centralized men’s Bible study. A centralized study would offer the potential for even more growth and opportunities to reach the leadership and executive community for God’s glory.

Dick and Joan Baker, the dynamic duo husband and wife speakers for this breakfast also spoke the night before at a dinner party of 40. They captivated both audiences with the story of how obtaining success and money instead of bringing them happiness ended their marriage in divorce. Then after a spiritual quest leading to a relationship with Christ, changing them both personally and in their business life and bringing them back together in remarriage.

February 6th, 220 men attended the Straight Talk Northshore breakfast. In just two weeks there were over 550 people who heard the message of God’s love and forgiveness and about 90 people needing to be followed up as a result.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Effective follow up and discipleship of those who have indicated a decision
  • Leadership needed to put together West suburb centralized men’s Bible Study
  • Host Team for Outreach Dinner Party April 23rd with Christopher Parkening

PRAISE–May 8 Straight Talk West–we have a speaker Tom Carter, Cornerback, Chicago Bears, but PRAY that no mini camp will take place that weekend!!
