February 1995 Update

Dear Prayer Partners and Friends,

Phew! We are a bit out of breath. The whirl and swirl of activity in Executive Ministries for Jesus can be, well, breathtaking! It has been a privilege for us to serve with Campus Crusade for Christ International since July 1993. Sherri and I are happy and thrilled to be elevated to Senior Staff and assigned to Chicago working with Ace & Marj Mokry, the City Directors. We are excited to be a part of the new things that God is doing  with Executive Ministries. We are deeply aware of our inadequacy for the awesome responsibility. Yet we are every bit as aware of God’s adequacy, His abiding presence and promise to equip us for the task that is now entrusted to us.

The Lord has not called us to fill the Mokry’s shoes. (Ace wears size 9. I wear size 7.) Seriously, there is only one Ace — don’t expect to see another like him! He has been our supervisor, our mentor, and he will continue to be our trusted advisor. We have not been chosen to replace the Mokry’s but selected to assist the Chicago team of Executive Ministries to lead courageous and creative men and women who want to tell the world about Jesus, even in the face of opposition.

Over the past 15 years, Chicago Executive Ministries has grown to be a successful outreach to executives and the leadership community across the city. Ace established principles, policies and procedures that have stood us in good stead, demonstrating foresight and grace in his choices and sensitivity to God’s leading. As we begin to assist the Mokry’s, we know who we are. Our greatest asset is no one person, other than the person of Jesus Christ, our redeemer. As long as we are for Him, as long as our purpose is to lift up His name and raise His image, He’s going to bless us.

We know that we can rely on the Lord. Sherri and I are confident that the team of people with whom we will serve will “hold up our arms” in the days ahead. We hope we can also count on your prayers and support. I feel in one sense that God has been preparing me for this opportunity all of my life — yet I have so much to learn. I know this much: Executive evangelism is important to God. I find that most comforting because as I survey the monumental task ahead, I know that God takes a direct interest in our success.

We are poised to leap ahead to a whole new chapter of ministry. Our commitment is growing. We feel a surge of fresh energy, mounting creativity. We want to invite you to pray with us and to join us in leaping into this adventure. I believe that when it comes to Executive evangelism, the best music has yet to be recorded, the best books have yet to be written, the best literature has yet to be developed and the best methods of outreach have yet to be discovered. We have always striven to be on the cutting edge of evangelism, and that will not change.

We will redouble our efforts to be understood, if not appreciated, by the leadership community. We will harness the latest developments in technology to effectively communicate the gospel. We’ve only just begun exploring the avenues of internet, media, video, infomercial and commercial television. (Well, we have unlimited imagination even if we have limited resources!) We will develop new evangelistic and discipleship materials that are more appropriate for  business people. All of these are only tools to help us reach our goal: direct and personal encounters with executives who need the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are new to Executive Ministries, you are joining us at a very exciting time. We hope you will “hang in” and consider us your gospel link with unreached executives all over Chicago area and the world. For those of you who have been friends and supporters for years, be assured that what you have known and loved about Executive Ministries will remain the same: count on us to speak to as many unsaved business men and women about Jesus as we possibly can. In fact, as you read this, we are in the midst of helping Peter Lowe’s “Success 1996 Business Seminar” here in Chicago which will expose thousands of people to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Partnering with this seminar is an opportunity to keep our focus where it belongs — on the multitudes of those who need Jesus.

I wish I could take each of you with me out into the boardrooms, offices and country clubs to see the faces of the countless influential and affluent executives who are not aware that they could have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Most of them do not attend a church. Their wealth and frenetic schedules insulates them from contacts  with those outside their social circles, and their hard work ethnic fosters a mindset of self-sufficiency. I know that you would share the burden that our staff and volunteers feel for those who so desperately need to hear the good news.

Here in Chicago and throughout the world, the task is enormous, our new responsibilities are overwhelming — and the opportunities are exhilarating! So you understand, dear prayer partners and friends, why we may be a bit out of breath. Yet we know that God, who breathed life into Adam and breathed His Spirit into His Holy Word, will continue to empower us for those things He has called us to do.

We do not know if the race will be a short sprint to the finish line or long distance marathon, but at this pivotal juncture in our ministry, we are intending to run with endurance the race that is set before us. We will run at Ace & Marj’s side, and we know that the grandstands are filled with heavenly onlookers cheering us forward. Come and help us set the pace! Serving God is like learning to golf … keep your knees bent and your arms extended.

Prayer Requests:
God’s wisdom, courage, strength and grace as we begin a new chapter of ministry.
That we will always remain faithful to the biblical principles on which we were called.
Continued faith and growth for the men and women reached through the ministry.
Further opportunities for outreaches beyond those already scheduled by our Hosts.
Active participation by friends of the ministry, volunteers, supporters and Host Couples.
Help with follow-up workers strong in the Lord and that the harvest will be great.
For our support as we still don’t have the committed monthly financial resources needed.

Serving the Lord with gladness.
